Hindy Ouds are amongst the most common & widely available ouds in the oud world today...The Syufis, The Amiri's, The Shyukhi's, The Qadeems, the Kalakassis....the list goes on and on...
But among all the Hindys you’ve experienced, how many truly made you pause in awe at their beauty and complexity? A hindy that when you sniffed, made a glitch-in-the-matrix?Â
There are many reasons why hindi ouds are ones of the most common and available ouds nowadays.
One of which, in older times in the GCC region, two main profiles reigned supreme: Hindis and Cambodis.
Mind you, anything other than the Hindis was referred to as Cambodi at that time (and that's for a later post). Not to indicate that there were no true cambodis, but the main point here is that the Hindy oud oils reigned supreme.
Â
Any oud veteran will have a special place in their heart for hindy oud. it's the smell of old times...the good times. For many, Hindy is the scent of nostalgia....the aroma of cherished memories and simpler times.
As demand soared, quality often gave way to quantity, turning mass production into the norm and leaving true oud connoisseurs yearning for the magic of a meticulously crafted Hindy.Â
Thankfully, every industry has its mavericks. The ones who pursue things for the beauty, quality, art, and for the experience. the ones who are called crazy by most. the ones who do things with their soul.Â
Vayu Musk is one of those endeavors.
We wanted a Hindy O.G. reminiscent of older times in the here and the now, and of course, it had to have our distinct touch.
This is an incense-grade traditional distillation, enhanced with precise refinements that reflect our mastery....additives? no of course not. We aged the oil to perfection, and then, using carefully calibrated techniques developed through our expertise, we infused it with Deer Musk grains.... (simple as grains in oud? nop. but that's for another post too).
The Result?
I think anyone who loves a true traditional hindy, should get at least a sample. This oil should be experienced by all hindy lovers. it's a whole experience. It's poetry for the olfactory bulb of a Hindy oud lover.
It's not an ultra clean Sinensis-like Hindy, nor is it like the Maharaja. This is a traditional hindy done right, and when we say traditional, we do not mean it's overly animalic either! Hindy lovers know that the good hindis are leathery yes, but are not overly animalic or revolting. It has what we call the hindy DNA.
Leather, fermented dates, licorice, hay, mild spiciness, and so on. All of this is part of the beauty of that DNA. Another major criterion is the smoothness, and this one is smoooooth. no dry grainy spikes in the scent. No tangy acidic notes either. Â
Vayu opens with bright vapors of licorice sweetness that I'd even say shares facets with what a bright Borneo (Malinau/Tarakan) might exhibit. It's not the suffocated hazy ashy type of opening, no! it's those rays of clear sweet sunlight. The playful hues of dark orange and yellow.
The musk is there....it carries those resinous notes to the top, adds a vanilla and cinnamon like sweetness, and a bed of earthy incense undertones in all stages.Â
The synergy between the Vayu and the Musk is .....mind.... blowing!
We’re proud to say that this is one of our most successful projects with musk and oud. It’s endeavors like these that keep us going....knowing that the time we spent developing our in-house methods in perfumery has culminated in an offering of this caliber.
